Ricky Darrell Traylor, 23, of Fort Payne, Ala., was arrested after a high-speed, multi-cruiser car chase on I-59 late Friday night.
The Dade County Sheriff’s Department responded when citizens called 911
to report a vehicle without its headlights on stopping in the interstate, causing
cars to swerve around it. Deputy Casey York caught up with the vehicle at Exit 11 on
I-59 South. The vehicle continued through the exit at 15 miles per hour and got back on the highway at a high rate of speed, said police.
The vehicle fled Deputy York and multiple other police cars, reaching in excess of 100 miles per hour at times, police report. Then, says the Sheriff’s Department, the man fleeing in the car conducted a U-turn in the interstate and attempted to hit squad cars.
Four police officers were able to box the vehicle in and get it to stop. The subject
did not comply with orders to surrender, reported the deputies, who subsequently tased him and placed him in custody without further incident.
The Georgia State Patrol was called to the scene of the arrest and the driver was cited for driving under the influence, open container of alcohol, and wrong-way travel. Dade County deputies also charged the subject for fleeing and attempting to elude, headlight requirements, failure to maintain lane, turn signal, obstruction, reckless driving, and aggravated assault on police officer by a vehicle.
Traylor has since been released on a $15,000.00 bond.
