Library News: Glad Tidings! Wednesday Opening Begins Sept. 1.

We have several entries for our National Park photo contest, but we would love to have more. You have until Friday, Aug. 26,,to submit an entry. Please bring a 5x7 copy with your name, phone number and the name of the park where it was taken on the back of the picture.

We have new books about national parks on display along with some maps and pictures. We will have a slide show on national parks on Tuesday evening, Aug. 30, at 7 p.m. to celebrate the 100th anniversary of America’s national parks. We will announce the winner of our photo contest then as well.

Last week I asked which parks were the oldest and newest national parks. The oldest is Yellowstone (March 1, 1872). The newest is Pinnacles in California (Jan. 10, 2013). For next week, do you know which state has the most national parks? Does Georgia have a national park?

Next week’s Ready-to-Read session is entitled, “Can I Borrow That?” and we will introduce the concept of checking out books to our young ones. It begins at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday mornings.

Saturday, Aug. 27, is Video Game Day at the library from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Bring your games and systems.

Good news! Because of increased funding from the Dade County Board of Education, the library will be increasing our hours beginning Sept. 1. We will now be open on Wednesdays.

Our new hours are as follows: Tuesdays, 10 a.m.-7 p.m.; Wednesdays, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.; Thursdays, 10 a.m.-6 p.m.; Fridays, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.; Saturdays, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.. So now the only days we are not open are Sunday and Monday and we are open a total of 34 hours. That is up 10 hours from the 24 hours we were cut back to n 2012.
