Let me apologize for not getting an article in last week. My husband had knee replacement surgery last week, and of course, I was at his beck and call and didn’t get to the library to write my article. He is doing well and was probably glad for me to get out of the house today.
First, we had a good turnout for our slide show about the 100th anniversary of America’s National Parks, as you should see in the picture that accompanies this article. If you follow us on Facebook (Friends of the Dade County Georgia Public Library), the slide show can be found there so you can see the pictures.
The winners of the National Parks photo contest were Sue and Hal Kloberdanz for their photo (above) of a waterfall taken in Yellowstone National Park. It’s a great picture. I took one of the same scene myself when we visited Yellowstone and if you see the 3D National Parks movie at the IMAX, you will see it there as well.
National Parks Month at the library culminated in a cake-and-punch party.
The Book Club will meet Tuesday, Sept. 20, at 7 p.m. at the library. We will be discussing Rick Bragg’s most recently published book, My Southern Journey. It is a collection of his essays and articles, including some of those published in Southern Living. Anyone is welcome to join us. If you haven’t read any of Bragg’s books before, you are in for a treat. I would recommend any and all of his books. Bragg grew up in northeast Alabama, just down the road from here, and his books are nonfiction, mostly about his family and the people he grew up around.
Sept. 17, which is a Saturday, is Constitution Day, and the library will have a related display.
There will be a Basic Computer class at the library on Tuesday, Sept. 27 at 6 p.m. It is free, but please call the library at (706) 657-7857 to register.
