Library News: Staff Fruit Basket Turnover

We had a good crowd at our last Book Club meeting and we’re happy to welcome some new folks to our group.

Next month’s selection is a nonfiction book, How We Got to Now by Steven Johnson. The book explores the history of innovation over centuries, tracing facets of modern life (refrigeration, clocks and eyeglass lenses, to name a few) from their creation by hobbyists, amateurs and entrepreneurs to their unintended historical consequences. The Book Club meets on the third Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. at the library.

In this week’s Ready-to-Read class, we’ll be learning about Harvest.

We’ve been so busy here at the library that we haven’t introduced our newest staff member, Melissa Hopkins. Melissa (right) is our new Youth Education Coordinator. She has a Master of Library Information Science degree from Valdosta State. She is the mother of three children and enjoys reading (of course), writing, puzzles and movies. Come by and meet her, but let me warn you that she is very, very busy on Thursday mornings when we have our Ready-to-Read program.

We feel like we’re playing fruit basket turnover here. Melissa replaces Tasha Denton, who left recently to be a full-time mom and foster mom. Our manager, Marshana Sharp, has been out for a couple of weeks after having surgery on her wrist. Staff member Dave Connis will be leaving us after this week for a new job, but Marshana will be returning.

We hope to be back to a full staff in the coming weeks.

The Rossville Public Library will be relocated at the Rossville Athletic Center at 301 Williams St.in Rossville for the next four to six months as the McFarland permanent location receives a complete renovation. The newly-renovated library will boast all-new LED lighting, a dedicated teen area, study rooms and state-of-the-art technology.

There will be a card-making/scrapbooking class at the Dade County Library on Tuesday Oct. 11. Drop in any time 3-7 p.m.
