The Dade Planet conscientiously updates the Upcoming Events feature on its front page, but--who looks at the front page? Everybody ought to! The Dade Planet also conscientiously posts obituaries, columns and news updates there. But The Planet has never been much good at making folks do right, so for those who don't, here's a quick lowdown on what's happening the rest of this week and this weekend.
First of all, Teri West and Cindy Cross want to remind all of their Coat and Blanket Drive this Saturday, Oct. 22. From 9-11 a.m. on Saturday, Teri and Cindy will accept donations of new or gently-used and laundered coats, blankets (non-electric), scarves and gloves for the needy, at Veterans Park on the Trenton town square. Donations can also be made to the collection box in the corridor inside the Dade County Sheriff’s Department in the Justice Building. Personal hygiene items are also needed. After distributing items to the Dade County community, any left over will be taken to the homeless in Chattanooga.
"It has been said that 80% of Americans are just two paychecks away from poverty," say Teri and Cindy. "Winter is just around the corner and there are families in our community who are in need. You can help!"

A self-defense class will be offered from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 20, at Trenton United Methodist(12500 N. Main) in the fellowship hall. The class is sponsored by The Family Crisis Center and taught by Larry Scott. Call (706) 375-7630 for more info.

The Lookout Mountain Neighborhood Watch will host a free-will donation luncheon on Sunday, Oct. 23, 11:30 a.m-to 2 p.m. at the New Salem Community Center on Hwys. 136/189. Spread the word. Support your neighborhood watch. We are the eyes and ears in helping to deter crime.
