Early voting in Dade County for this year's general election started Monday and will continue through Nov. 4. Hours at the one open poll for early voting, the Board of Elections' central office in the Dade Administrative Building, are 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m.-2 p.m. on Friday. The office is closed for lunch each day from noon-12:30 p.m.

This season, there will be one Saturday voting day, Oct. 29, when the office will be open from 9 a.m.-4 p.m., again closing for lunch at noon for half an hour. Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 8.

Poll officer Lowanna Vaughn reported that turnout had been heavy so far--for Dade, in any case--with about 500 ballots cast so far. "We've averaging 125 to 150 a day," she said.

She said that was considerably more than had showed up for the spring primary.
