Sheriff's Department Announces Drug Arrests



The Dade County Sheriff's Department announced on Monday it had had a busy week in relation to drug arrests. Eight subjects were arrested and charged in separate incidents for drug possession.

On Nov. 15, Jonathan Burns, 43, of Lookout Mountain, Ga., was arrested and charged with possession of a Schedule II controlled substance, driving while license suspended, forgery in the first degree and possession of drug-related objects.

On Nov. 16, Teresa Skinner, 39, of Rising Fawn, was arrested and charged with possession of a Schedule II controlled substance. Also on this date, a traffic stop was conducted and two subjects were subsequently found in possession of drugs. Johnathan Hanawalt, 28, of Bryant, Ala., was arrested and charged with possession of a Schedule I controlled substance (LSD), possession of marijuana and three traffic violations. Hanawalt is still in custody on a $10,000 bond.

Also arrested was Darrell Whited, 35, of Wildwood, who was charged with possession of a Schedule II and Schedule IV controlled substance, possession of drug-related objects, possession of marijuana and a traffic violation. Whited has since been released on a $10,000 bond.

On Nov. 17, Jarod Wooten, 18, of Trenton, was arrested by a Georgia State Patrol officer during a traffic stop and charged with possession of a Schedule I controlled substance (THC oil), possession of drug-related objects and driving under the influence. Wooten has since been released on a $5,000 bond.

Also on Nov. 17, Dade County deputies noticed what appeared to be a broken-down vehicle sitting on the interstate. Upon further investigating, they found a male and female subject who appeared to be asleep in the vehicle. Deputies were finally able to awake the two subjects and have them exit the vehicle. During the investigation, the canine unit was called and the canine did alert on the vehicle after conducting a free-air scan.

Samantha Fry, 24, of Flat Rock, Ala., was arrested and charged with possession of a Schedule II and IV controlled substance, possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug-related objects, distributing, possession of marijuana, and driving while license suspended. The male subject, Jamie Minor, 30, also of Flat Rock, was arrested and charged with possession of a Schedule II and IV controlled substance, possession of methamphetamine, distributing, possession of drug-related objects, drugs to be kept in original container and possession of marijuana. Both subjects are still in custody on a $25,000 bond.

In addition to the drug arrests, two sex offenders are in jail this week also. Ernest Carter, 28, of Dalton, is charged with violating his probation. He is a convicted sex offender from Dade County and is not available to bond out of jail.

Also, Charles W. Gass was arrested by a Trenton police officer late Saturday night for possession of a Schedule IV controlled substance (Xanax) and now has been charged with failure to register as a sex offender after moving to Dade County and neglecting to register with the Sheriff's office. Gass is awaiting his first appearance bond hearing with the magistrate judge.

Dade Sheriff Ray Cross says he is grateful to each deputy and to officers from Georgia State Patrol and the Trenton Police Department for their hard work apprehending these offenders.
