Library News: Check out "Tech Petting Zoo" This Saturday!

This week’s Ready-to-Read program will be about gingerbread. This begins at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday morning. This month’s family movie will also be shown on Thursday, Dec. 8, at 3:30 p.m. We’ll be showing The Secret Life of Pets.

We have a scrapbooking and card-making class once a month at the library. This month it will be Tuesday, Dec. 13, from 3-7 p.m. Feel free to drop in any time during that period. If you are a pro or just beginning, come and enjoy the company of fellow scrapbookers. We have lots of stickers and paper to share. All programs are free, but if you have paper or supplies that you would like to donate, it would be appreciated.

We will have some activities at the library on the evening of the Christmas parade, Saturday, Dec. 10. From 5-7:30 p.m., come check out our “Tech Petting Zoo.” Are you interested in buying 3-D glasses, Code-a-pillar or an i-Pad for someone for Christmas? Come by the library and try some of the latest tech toys before you buy. For a list of items you will be able to try out, call the library at (706) 657-7857 or check out the Dade County Public Library Facebook page.

Also on Saturday, Dec. 10, we will have sessions to record the living history of Dade County. If you or someone you know would like to be a part of this project, please have them come by the library on the evening of the Christmas parade and record their stories of Dade County’s past. We will be recording from 5-7 p.m. The library has received a grant to purchase videotaping equipment to record a living history of Dade County. We will have other times set up to video; just watch for announcements in this column and our Facebook page.

On Wednesday, Dec. 14, we will have “Make and Take” gifts for all ages. We will have some gift ideas you can make for the holidays. Everyone will be able to make something to take home with them that day. This is for all ages. The library is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednesdays.

The Book Club will have its annual Christmas party and book selection for the coming year on Tuesday, Dec. 20, at the library. Bring finger foods and a book to nominate if you are interested.
