Library News: Try Louise Penny mystery series

Happy New Year to our patrons and we hope you all have a good Christmas, too. We will have Ready-to-Read on Thursday, December 29, at 10:30 a.m. and our program will be Happy New Year!

If you got any new books, audiobooks or DVDs for Christmas and need to make room for them, consider donating some of your used ones. We don’t get much money for DVDs, but they get checked out a lot and we can always use some new ones. If you got a new E-reader (Nook, Kindle, Tablet, etc.) and want to get set up to download free books through Overdrive, come by the library and we will help you get set up. If you have a library card, we can give you a password and you can choose from thousands of electronic books and audiobooks and download them for free. Like regular books, they can be checked out for two weeks and then they just disappear from your device, unless you renew them.

The Book Club met last week and selected the books that we will read in 2017. I’ll publish the list next week. The book we will read for January 2017 is Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs. The movie is already out for this one.

A big Thank You to all the volunteers who have helped us out at the library this year. There’s no way we can remember everyone who has helped out, but they are appreciated!

The library will NOT be closed any for New Year’s. We will be operating at our regular hours.

I have another book recommendation, a series actually. I’ve been waiting for them to get cataloged and shelved at our library and the first four are here! This is the Inspector Gamache series by Louise Penny. This is one of the best mystery series that I’ve read. They are set in in Montreal, Canada, most of them in the little village of Three Pines. We have the audio version of at least one of them, and you might want to try it so you will know how to pronounce the French names.

I think there are nine books in the series and Ms. Penny is still writing. The first book in the series is Still Life, and her most recent, A Great Reckoning, was on the New York Times bestseller list.
