Simultaneous Sand Mountain Fires Raise Suspicions

Three simultaneous fires on Sand Mountain kept Dade's volunteer fire departments hopping Monday night. No information on causation is immediately available, but Dade's Emergency Services Director Alex Case was willing to part with the information that one fire chief had smelled a rat and requested the sheriff's department to investigate.

The fires were on Hartline, McBryar and Porter roads on the mountain. Case said the two that he attended with the Trenton Fire Department were both trailers. He said all the residences were total losses. No injuries were reported.

He said Don Hicks with the Dade Sheriff's Department is in charge of the investigation.
