Library News: Order "Books Are Fun" Goodies at the Library

Next week’s Ready-to-Read class will be about Dental Health. These classes are for preschool children and take place at 10:30 a.m. on Thursdays.

We have a Books are Fun display at the library and we can take orders through lunchtime on Thursday, Feb. 2. The prices are excellent and we have several good sets of children’s books and other items as well: family games, a Magic School Bus Chemistry Lab, large picture frame, Glow Candles, a Georgia lunchbox, LED light set, gel pens, coloring books and more. Items will be ordered on Thursday afternoon and will be delivered some time on Friday, Feb. 3.

From time to time I like to remind patrons of services that the library offers as we continue to add new technology. The library offers FREE access to the Internet, local newspapers, Microsoft Office, GALILEO, Learning Express, Ancestry, family history and local history resources, community information, voter registration, tax forms, children and adult programming, computer classes, scan-and-send documents, 3D scanner and printer, VHS-to-DVD converter, Wacom tablet, photo/film/slide scanner and 3D printer/2D scanner.

In February the Book Club will be discussing a nonfiction book, Jacksonland by Steve Inskeep. The book is about Andrew Jackson, Chief John Ross and the Great American Land Grab. You will find some local references in the book. For instance, George Lowery, also known as Rising Fawn, was one of the Cherokee who went to Washington D.C. to represent his people along with John Ross, Major Ridge and others.

We still have some used books for sale, $5 for all you can get in a bag.
