Gen. Woods Inn in Rising Fawn Burns

The General Woods Inn in Rising Fawn has burned to the ground. No injuries are reported.

Alex Case, Dade's Emergency Services director, said the call came in around 4:30 a.m. Wednesday morning. The South Dade Volunteer Fire Department was first on the scene with Trenton FD responding as backup, but Case says it was already too late.

"It was fully involved when we got there. We just had to do a defensive attack, water from the outside," said Case. "It had already collapsed to the ground."

Case said owners Gen. Robert and Nadine Woods were not on the premises when the fire started. He saw the general arrive at the scene and understood that Mrs. Woods was out of town.

The couple own another home in Dade.

Case said he had no idea how the fire had started. It was still burning as he spoke, he said around 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, with South Dade firefighters still attending.

The Gen. Woods Inn was a sprawling 5680-square-foot mansion built in 1995 atop a towering promontory off Deerhead Cove Road in Rising Fawn. The Woods family bought it in 2003 for over half a million dollars and rented it out as an event venue. Many a wedding party has enjoyed its commanding view of Rising Fawn.
