DeKalb County (Ala.) Sheriff Jimmy Harris reported that a juvenile had been stabbed at Ider School this morning when an argument broke out between two students in the gym.

School Resource Officer (SRO) Wesley Greeson and the principal and school nurse were notified of the incident. The juvenile suspect was detained and transported to juvenile probation office in Fort Payne by the SRO. The injured juvenile was treated by the nurse, released to the parents and expected to be OK, said the DeKalb Sheriff’s Department.

An investigation is ongoing, and the department is releasing no more information at this time.

DeKalb Schools Superintendent Dr. Jason Barnett came to the scene. All information uncovered during the investigation of the incident will be turned over to him, school board members and the juvenile probation office.

“This is a scary situation to happen at one of our schools,” said Sheriff Harris. “We are glad that the incident was handled quickly and with no other incident. We are thankful to have SROs in all of our schools in the county and we are also glad that the juvenile is expected to be OK.”
