Family Movie Day is Wednesday, February 15, from 3:15 to 5 p.m. Popcorn and water are included!
Our Ready-to-Read class will be taking a virtual trip to Africa, starting at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, February 16.
The Book Club will meet Tuesday, February 21, at 7 p.m. to discuss the nonfiction book Jacksonland by Steve Inskeep. Find out more about President Andrew Jackson, Cherokee Chief John Ross and the great American Land Grab. In reading this book, I’ve learned more than I ever knew about John Ross. He certainly never gave up working for his people. If for some reason you can’t make it to this meeting, our March book is Mr. Mercedes by Stephen King. The Book Club meets on the third Tuesday of each month.
We are taking applications for kids 6-10 to participate in our upcoming PrimeTime Reading program. It will begin March 2 and will meet each Thursday from 5:30 to 7 p.m. through April 13 (skipping March 30). A free meal will be served at each session and children will receive free books. Call (706) 657-7857 or come by the library to register your child. This is a family program, so parents come as well.
We will have another beginners’ computer class on Tuesday, February 28, at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Call the library at (706) 657-7857 to sign up.
We have some local history books for sale at the library: History of Dade County, Vol. 1, $20; History of Dade County, Vol. II, $35; Dade County Marriage Book, 1888-1901; Dade County Cemetery Survey, $30. If you are interested in these books but don’t want to purchase them, we have copies that can be accessed at the library. They are not available to check out, however.
We’re recording living histories all during the month of February. It doesn’t take long. Come by any time we are open, Tuesday through Saturday.
