Library News: Give Us Your Photos. Do It Now!

Please help us preserve the history of Dade County by bringing in or sending us a photo that says, “This is Dade County,” to you. Our project is called “Captured: A living history of Dade County.” Your photos will be published in a book that will be sent to libraries across the state.

Please give your photo a short title, along with your name. The photo can be sent digitally or dropped off at the Dade County Public Library. All photos must be in by March 1. Photos can be sent electronically to msharp@chrl.org . If you come by the library, we can make a copy of your picture so that you may keep your original. This program is supported by the Georgia Council for the Arts.

Next week’s Ready-to-Read class will be about exploring outer space. Another upcoming program will be on Saturday, February 25, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This program is for teens, and they will be able to create their own video game with Bloxels.

There will also be a beginners’ computer class on Tuesday, February 28, at 10 a.m. and at 6 p.m. These will last about an hour.

There will be a Parent Café on Feb. 28 from 6-7p.m. at the Dade County Public Library. It will be for any parent/guardian raising children who have gone through physical or emotional abuse. Someone from the Children’s Advocacy Center will be speaking and the hope is to form a monthly support group led by the Children’s Advocacy Center from this meeting. Dinner and door prizes will be provided by DADE FIRST – Family Connection and the NW GA Federation of Families.

The Prime Time Family Reading program is now registering families with children between 6 and 10 years of age for a six-week journey that will allow families to bond through reading and learning together. There will be a separate reading activity available for younger siblings.

Every family will receive a free book and meal per session. The program will be held from 5:30 – 7pm on Thursdays Mar. 2 – Apr. 13. Spaces are limited, so come by the library and fill out an application if interested. For more information, contact Melissa Hopkins at 657-7857 or mhopkins@chrl.org. The program is free.

We are still recording living histories this month at the library. Come by and share your stories with us.
