Library News: Read to Lead Gala March 18 on Square

Dade County’s third annual Read to Lead program will be Saturday, March 18, from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Dade County Public Library and Veterans Park on the square. We’ll be celebrating National Reading Month and Dr. Seuss’s birthday!

There will be stories read by leaders in the Dade County community and entertainment by the Davis Elementary School chorus and other groups. There will be snacks, games, crafts, free haircuts, Noah’s Ark Petting Zoo (10 a.m.-noon), face painting and a photo booth. Kids will receive free books and there will be door prizes, including autographed Dolly Parton children’s books and Dollywood tickets. We had a really good turnout for this event last year. It is sponsored by Dade First-Family Connection and the Dade County Public Library.

Our Prime Time Family Reading class has already begun, but will still have slots for more children. This is for kids 6 and up, with their parents. It is on Thursdays, beginning at 5:30 p.m., with a free meal served. Kids get free books, too. Call or come by the library to register—(706) 657-7857.

Are you interested in downloading ebooks to your tablet, your e-reader or even your phone? Come by the library on Fridays in March (except March 31) to get help downloading Overdrive so that you can use this service, which is free if you have a library card. You can access ebooks and electronic audiobooks.

This week’s Ready-to-Read class is about kites and weather. Join us at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday.

We got a shipment of new junior nonfiction books last week. They will be on display for a few weeks, so come in and check them out.
