Donated photos such as this historical shot of the Trenton town square will be on display at the Dade County Public Library beginning on Friday (March 31) and running through the end of April. Library Manager Marshana Sharp and her staff will host a reception from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. on Friday. The community is invited to come by for refreshments and a stroll around the snaps.
The photographs will be printed and bound in a book of which the library will publish multiple copies, for the local schools and for the other branches of the regional library as well as Dade's own. Ms. Sharp says the other branches have not published photo collections of their own counties or towns--an oversight she expects to be remedied shortly now that, ahem, Dade has set the tone.
The Dade photo collection is by no means purely historical, and Ms. Sharp says the book will be separated into sections entitled Dade is Historical, Dade is Outdoors and Dade is People (or headings along those lines). Ms. Sharp regretted the book could not be printed in time for the reception.
Visitors to Friday's reception may also view the video "A Living History of Dade County" the library has been producing in conjunction with the photo project.
The video and book projects were funded by a grant from the Georgia Council for the Arts, a partner agency of the National Endowment for the Arts.
