Come to the Library's Wellness Fair at Festival of Life

Thanks to all who came by for our open house today to view our Living History exhibit at the library. Remember that this exhibit will be up throughout the month of April. We have pictures submitted by Dade County citizens and videos of local history, told by folks who live here or grew up here.

(Editor's Note: The photos scattered throughout this article, by The Planet, are from the exhibit and reception.)

A Health and Wellness Fair will be held at the Dade County Public Library on Saturday, April 8, from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. It is hosted by the Dade County Commission and the Dade County Public Library, in conjunction with the Dade County Festival of Life. Come to the library for free health and wellness information and tips on how to live healthier. We will have freebies, blood pressure checks, chair massages, the Mary Ellen Locher mobile health bus and much more. For more information, call (706) 657-7857.

The CHI Memorial Mobile Health bus will be doing mammograms that day. To schedule a mammogram, call (423) 495-4040 or (866) 591-2254. Preregistration forms are available at the library and online. You should have your doctor’s full name, photo ID and your insurance card. More information is available at memorial.org/mobile-mammography.

We are working on a really neat project here at the library. There is an organization that will scan old yearbooks and put them on DVDs for us. The library had many yearbooks from the old Dade High, Davis, Northwest Georgia and the current Dade County High School. We filled in some of the gaps with yearbooks that Donna Street and I had, plus some from the high school library.

It will take some time to get these scanned, but at some point these will be available to look at in the library and there is a possibility we will be able to sell copies as well. I will give an update on this project when we know more. The yearbooks have already been sent to be scanned.

This week’s Ready-to-Read class is “Down By the Pond.” We’ll be learning about all the critters that live in a pond. Join us at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday.
