For months now, Trenton city and Dade County officials have joined business and civic leaders and other volunteers from the private sector in brainstorming sessions to come up with a 10-year "Joint Comprehensive Plan Update" for the city and county for 2017-2027, in accordance with regulations set by the Georgia Department of Community Affairs.
Now the city and county have come up with a draft plan and will present it to the public and accept comments at a joint public hearing at 2 p.m. on Thursday, April 13, in the Commission Room of the Dade Administrative Building.
After the public hearing and receipt of public comment, if any, the draft plan will be submitted for review by the Northwest Georgia Regional Commission and the Georgia Department of Community Affairs. The plan must be approved by June 30 to maintain Qualified Local Government (QLG) status for each local government per the Georgia Planning Act of 1989. This allows the city and county continued eligibility for state loans, grants and permits for another five years.
Comprehensive plans for communities identify their needs and set forth their goals. Concerns include such public matters as transportation, traffic, economic development and land use.
Copies of the draft plan will be available for review at city and county offices and on the Northwest Georgia Regional Commission website, nwgrc.org.
