Library News: Still Time to Sign Kids Up For Summer Reading

The first week of Summer Reading is in the books.

It started on Thursday, when we issued library cards, signed kids up for Summer Reading, checked out a lot of books, led the kids on various activities they enjoyed, and had lunch. We had about 200 adults and children altogether and expect that number to go up as the summer goes on. Children can still be signed up at www.chrl.org. Just look for the Summer Reading icon. Children may be signed up at the library as well.

This week’s program, Thursday, June 8, will be Ben Roy doing a fun and entertaining science program. Join us at 10:30 a.m. Kids can get their reading logs stamped in the children’s room in the corner and sign up for the prize drawing. All programs are FREE. Requirements for Summer Reading are in the bags that each child gets when he or she signs up.

Ask about Summer Reading for adults. This summer we thought, “Why should the kids have all the fun?” So we have some activities for adults. The first one is on Friday, June 9, from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Join us for some stress-free activities. We will have food and activities that are known to help relieve stress.

On Saturday, June 17, beginning at 10 a.m., there will be a sewing class where participants will learn to make a pillowcase dress. The dresses will be donated to children in need.

On Tuesday, June 20, at 7 p.m., the Book Club will meet to discuss bestseller All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr.

The school nutrition program will be giving out sack lunches for children at the library Tuesday through Friday of each week during June and July. Lunches are generally available from 11 a.m.-2 p.m.
