DeKalb Sheriff Reports Drugs, Stabbing Over Weekend


On Saturday, while doing a welfare checkup on a child in a home where drug activity was suspected, DeKalb County (Ala.) Sheriff’s deputies ad Geraldine Police Department officers confiscated marijuana, guns and money.

Called to the residence with a tip of possible drug activity, officers at the door detected a strong odor of marijuana. Once inside the residence, they found a small amount of marijuana, at which time the DeKalb County Drug Task Force was contacted and a search warrant was issued. DHR (Department of Human Resources, which includes children’s services) was also called to the scene due to children being present. Two pounds of marijuana, several guns and a large amount of cash were found inside the residence.


Lisa Cranford, 59, of Geraldine (below, right) was arrested and charged with Unlawful Possession of Marijuana 2nd and Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Charles Jacob Cranford, 22, of Dawson, was arrested and charged with Unlawful Possession of Marijuana 1st, Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Chemical Endangerment of Exposing a Child. Destiny Hope Banks (below, left), 20, of Geraldine was also arrested and charged with Chemical Endangerment of Exposing a Child.


DeKalb Sheriff Jimmy Harris commented: “The deputies, ​​DeKalb County Drug Task Force and Geraldine officers did a great job on noticing the strong odor. We are glad to get those children out of a situation like this.”

Also on Saturday, at approximately 8:15 p.m., the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office received a call to College Street in Crossville about a stabbing. When Crossville police and sheriff’s deputies arrived, the victim, Michael Woods, 48, was lying in the


street, responsive but bleeding heavily. Deputies and Officers secured the scene and detained the suspect Dakota Broome, 24.

The lawmen were told that Woods had come over to Broome’s residence to pick up his daughter, who is engaged to Broome. Shortly after Woods arrived, an argument began between him and Broome. Broome asked Woods to leave the property, after which Woods allegedly attacked Broome. Broome then allegedly stabbed Woods.

The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Investigators processed the scene. No arrest have been made at this time but an investigation is ongoing.

Sheriff Harris concluded: “The Deputies, Crossville officers and investigators have done a great job on this case so far. This is all the information that will be released at this time due to the ongoing investigation.”
