Library News: Don't Forget Our State Park and Zoo Passes!

I gave some statistics on the Summer Reading Program last week, but I have more.

Although most of our programs were for children, we also had programs for teens and adults. We had 13 children’s programs and almost 200 kids signed up. About half of them received certificates for completing the program. We had three teen programs, with 44 participating and 20 completing the program. Twenty-one adults participated in Summer Reading programs.

We had 23 volunteers who put in 150 hours helping with our summer reading programs. We really could not do all the programs we do without our volunteers. They help set up, shelve books, get counts for statistics, stamp reading logs, give out prizes and many other things. We appreciate our volunteers!

We also are thankful for the donors who help make Summer Reading possible. We spent around $2000 on programs and received $1785 in donations. We also had food and prizes donated.

Many thanks to our sponsors: Southeast Lineman Training Center, Food City, Subway, McDonald’s, Hardee’s, Krystal, Rock City, Lake Winnepesaukah, Lake Region Medical, Citizens Bank, Friends of the Library, Bank of Dade, Sharp’s Auto Sales, the Chattanooga Zoo and the Creative Discovery Museum.

We had 13 folks at the Book Club meeting last week. Everyone really seemed to really enjoy The Boys in the Boat. Next month’s selection is also a nonfiction book, But What If We’re Wrong? by Chuck Klosterman. This book asks readers to think about the present as if it were the past. It asks questions that will make us think. The August meeting will be on Tuesday, August 15, at 7 p.m.

Need to make copies or enlargements of old pictures? We have copy machines at the library that will do that for a reasonable price, even poster size. Also, don’t forget the free passes available at the library: Georgia State Parks parking pass, Atlanta Zoo, Chattanooga Zoo, Michael C. Carlos Museum and the Center for Puppetry Arts.
