Sheriff and His Deputies Catch Youths Stealing Dirt Bike, 4-Wheeler

At approximately 11 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 15, Dade County deputies were dispatched to an address on Leisure Lane in reference to a possible burglary in progress.

The complainant advised the deputies that he had heard his dirt bike crank up and be ridden off his property. The complainant also said that he had found his four-wheeler was missing as well.

The deputies began to check the area of Slygo Road and Highway 299, but found nothing. Shortly after checking the area, deputies heard Sheriff Ray Cross advise over the radio that he had spotted the subjects on Highway 11 North, approximately one block North of Belree Road.

The deputies then started off for Sheriff Cross's location. When they arrived, Sheriff Cross already had one subject in custody, and another had run into some tall weeds, attempting to avoid custody. Sheriff Cross and his deputies began searching for the other subject, quickly located him, and took him into custody. Both subjects, 17 and 18, respectively, admitted to taking the vehicles but could not provide a reason why.

The dirt bike was located with the two young suspects, and the four-wheeler was found approximately 20 yards away.

The two young men are currently in the Dade County Jail facing burglary and criminal trespass charges.
