DeKalb Car search nets 35 pounds of dope; car was stolen from Georgia

The DeKalb Sheriff's Department says one car search netted 15 marijuana plants totaling 35 pounds.

On Sunday, a DeKalb (Ala.) deputy was assisting Fort Payne Police on a vehicle pursuit for several miles on County Road 751 in Valley Head. When the deputy lost sight of the vehicle he was chasing, he observed a vehicle sitting on the side of the road. The Deputy pulled over to see if he saw the original vehicle go by.

In the stationary car was James Trammell Warren (below), 39, of Bridgeport. As the deputy was talking to Warren, he noticed a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. When he asked Warren if he had marijuana in the vehicle, Warren stated that he just smoked some.

When Warren was asked to step out of the vehicle, he was found to be in possession of a pistol on his person. As a result of the search of the vehicle, 15 marijuana plants totaling approximately 35 pounds were found inside the vehicle, at which time the DeKalb County Drug and Major Crimes Unit was contacted.

In the meantime, the VIN number of the vehicle was run and it emerged that it was stolen out of Georgia.

Warren was arrested and charged with Theft of Property 1st, Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Trafficking in Any Illegal Drug, and Persons Forbidden to Possess Pistol.

DeKalb Sheriff Jimmy Harris commented: “The deputies did an outstanding job on being observant in the case. We are also thankful that we got this much marijuana off the streets, and recovered the stolen vehicle from Georgia.”
