The Georgia State Patrol reports that the motorcycle rider who went off the side of Lookout Mountain on Saturday was Ranieri Domenico, 45, of Lula, Ga.

GSP says Domenico was traveling west on Highway 136 East Saturday morning, coming down the mountain on his Harley-Davidson bike, when he ran off the road and careened down a slope until he struck a large boulder.

The New Salem and Trenton volunteer fire departments as well as the Dade Sheriff’s Department responded, and the ensuing rescue effort was aided by other motorcyclists. Rodney Ross, New Salem fire chief, said he understood Domenico had been traveling in company with the other riders.

Domenico was brought back up the slope and then transported by ambulance to Erlanger for what the GSP report said were upper-extremity injuries—presumably a broken arm.
