Henagar Man Shot, Dad Arrested

A 24-year-old Alabama man remains at Erlanger after having been shot in the head. His father has been arrested but has not been charged with shooting him.

At approximately 9:30 pm on Tuesday, the DeKalb County (Ala.) Sheriff’s Office received a call about a domestic dispute between father and son, with shots fired, at a residence on County Road 739 in Henagar. When investigators, deputies, Ider police and Alabama state troopers arrived on the scene they found a 24-year-old male who appeared to have a gunshot wound to the head.

The young man was transported by DeKalb Ambulance Service to Erlanger Hospital where he underwent surgery. His condition is unknown at this time.

Jacksonville State Forensics Science Investigator Mark Hopwood was called to help process the scene. The father, Scott K. Slaton (above), 53, of Henagar, was arrested on the scene for obstructing government operations and resisting arrest.

DeKalb Sheriff Jimmy Harris commented: “This is an unfortunate incident that occurred and our thoughts and prayers are with the victim and his family. This is still an ongoing investigation and as we continue to compile information and evidence it will be possible that more charges will be added. If not, we will send this case to Grand Jury for further review.”
