DeKalb Recovers Stolen Auto After Crossville Officer Recognizes

The DeKalb County (Ala.) Sheriff's Office recovered a stolen automobile on Wednesday after a Crossville police officer saw it rolling down the road and recognized it from the description.

The office had received a report Wednesday afternoon about a vehicle that had been stolen out of the owners’ yard on County Road 52 in Dawson. Later that evening, the Crossville police officer noticed a vehicle that matched the description of the stolen vehicle at the intersection of Alabama Highway 68 and County Road 24. The officer called the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office dispatch to run the tag number and it was confirmed that the vehicle was stolen.

The officer asked the driver, Joseph Daniel Hill (above), 33, of Albertville, Ala., if he had any weapons inside the vehicle, Hill stated that he had a pistol in the passenger seat. At that time, Geraldine police officers and sheriff's deputies arrived on the scene to assist and Investigators were contacted. Hill was arrested and charged with receiving stolen property 1st and carrying pistol unlawfully, with pending charges of robbery 3rd and theft of property 4th.

DeKalb Sheriff Jimmy Harris commented: “Thank you to the Crossville officer for being observant and to the Geraldine deputies and investigators for their assists. This is a good example of how all municipalities are attentive and come together to help each other.”
