Library News: Dade County Christmas Ornaments for Sale at Library

We now have our own custom-made Dade County Christmas ornaments on display at the library on a Christmas tree. They are for sale by Friends of the Library. We have ornaments of the old Dade County Courthouse, Sitton’s Mill and Dyer Mercantile for $15 each. If you are interested in buying a whole set of 12 ornaments, you can fill out an order form and we will order them for you. A full set is $150.

The last week in September is Banned Books Week. Banned Books is an annual event celebrating our freedom to read. Banned Books Week brings together the entire book community—librarians, booksellers, publishers, journalists, teachers and readers—in shared support of the freedom to seek and express ideas, even those some consider unorthodox or unpopular.

Our library will be participating in this celebration. Interested in seeing what books have been banned in the years since this celebration began? Here’s a link to the Top Ten Lists: http://www.ala.org/advocacy/bbooks/NLW-Top10

There will be a computer class at the library on Tuesday, Sept. 26, at 5:30 p.m. Call (706) 657-7857 to sign up. We can work with you on whatever you are interested in.

Library Card Sign Up Month goes through the end of September, so you still have time to get a new card or update your old one and get your name in for a drawing.

The library will have an information booth at Children’s Day on Saturday, Sept. 23, from noon-3 p.m.
