DeKalb Arrests Meth Mom

The DeKalb County (Ala.) Sheriff’s Office has arrested a new mother for child endangerment because she took methamphetamine during her pregnancy.

The sheriff’s office says Marie Coker, 24, of Henagar, Ala., had tested positive for meth on multiple occasions during her pregnancy. She delivered her child on Aug. 23, and a subsequent investigation confirmed that she had used methamphetamine during her pregnancy. The child is expected to make a full recovery, but the mother faces charges of chemical endangerment of a child.

Chief Edmondson commented: “I want to thank our investigators for doing a great job working with DHR (Department of Human Resources) and the hospital staff on this investigation. We are also thankful that the baby will make a full recovery. DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office has a zero tolerance for mothers who use illegal substances while pregnant.”
