Library News: October packed with stuff to do at the library!

We’ve got lots of activities going on at the library in October, so I’ll give a rundown on the whole month and then I’ll give some reminders as the month goes on.

Ready-to-Read is every Thursday from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. This week’s program is about Monsters!

Thursday, Oct. 5, is Family Movie Day. There will be two movies, one for small children and one for older children and adults. Join us at 3:30 p.m. for movies and popcorn.

Tuesday, Oct. 10, is Tech Day, beginning at 5:30 p.m. Bring in your laptop, tablet or any electronic device you need assistance with. If you’re interested in downloading e-books from the library, we can help you with that as well.

The Book Club will meet on Tuesday, Oct. 17, at 7 p.m. at the library. We will be discussing The Underground Railroad by Colson Whitehead. It is the story of Cora, a slave on a Georgia plantation, trying to escape her bondage. This National Book Award winner is not a true history. In this story, the Underground Railroad is not a metaphor but a real railroad with tracks and stations. The Underground Railroad is the winner of the Pulitzer Prize in literature and was selected for Oprah’s Book Club.

Saturday, Oct. 28, is Trick or Treat at the Library and there will be booths out front in Veterans Park. It begins at 5:30 p.m. and goes until 8:00. The library’s Halloween theme this year is Alice in Wonderland. Bring the kids to explore Wonderland for a magical trick-or-treat experience.

Dade County historical Christmas tree ornaments continue to be available at the library. Individual ornaments are $15. We have the Dade County Courthouse and Dyer Mercantile available as well as a few of Sitton’s Mill. Others can be ordered. A full set of 12 can be ordered and will take about two weeks to come in. A full set is $150.
