McHelp Your McLibrary by McEating at McDonald's Oct. 30

This week’s column will be a short one although there’s plenty going on at the library. I’ve had a bit of a cold-and-cough-combination that I didn’t want to share with the staff or our patrons, so I was not at the library on my usual day.

We will have our usual Ready-to-Read class at the library on Thursday. This week’s theme is Bats.

The Book Club will meet Tuesday, Oct. 17 at 7 p.m. at the library to discuss The Underground Railroad by Colson Whitehead. Anyone interested is welcome. The book has won several awards.

If you want to get started on our November book, we’ll be reading Alas, Babylon by Pat Frank, a novel about a post-nuclear holocaust world in the United States. At the time it was written, 1959, the threat of nuclear war was very real and people were building bomb shelters in their back yards. I imagine some of us remember that time or at least remember hearing about it, and younger folks might profit by learning about it.

The staff is gearing up for Trick or Treat at the library on Saturday, Oct. 28. Our theme for the evening is Alice in Wonderland and the library will be decorated with all the staff in costumes.

Also, make plans to eat at McDonald’s on Monday, Oct. 30, from 4 to 8 p.m. McDonald’s is once again hosting McLibrary night. There will be live entertainment as well. A portion of sales from that evening and all tips will go to support programs at the library. Dine in or drive through and support your local library!
