These are arrests reported by Detective Cyndi Thurman of the Dade County Sheriff's Office. Sgt. Chad Payne, information officer, who usually gives the report, is on vacation this week.

On Thursday, Oct. 5, at approximately 9:57 am, a Dade County deputy conducted a traffic stop on Highway 299 in reference to a broken taillight. Upon approaching the vehicle, the deputy smelled an alcoholic beverage odor coming from the vehicle. James Richard Bethune (left) was given field sobriety tests and was arrested as a result.

Bethune, 62, of Trenton, was charged with a broken taillight, driving without license on person, DUI and possessing marijuana less than one ounce.

On Wednesday, Oct. 4, at approximately 7:19 p.m., an off-duty Dade County deputy called into dispatch after almost being rear-ended multiple times by a subject behind him. The off-duty deputy also advised that the driver in question was laying drag at a stop sign.

Terry Lee McDaniel II (right) was subsequently traffic-stopped by a Dade County deputy at Exit 11 at the entrance ramp to I-59 Northbound. Mr. McDaniel, 39, of Soddy Daisy, Tenn., was arrested for laying drag, DUI, open container and driving on a suspended license.

Dade County Sheriff Ray Cross reminds citizens that drugs are the enemy of hope and ambition--and when we fight against drugs we are fighting for the future.
