New Salem Neighborhood Watch Invites You For Sunday Lunch

Terry Adkins poses with the New Salem Watch car,

The New Salem Neighborhood Watch will host its annual fundraiser luncheon this Sunday, Oct. 22, from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. The featured entree will be a delicious spaghetti and meatball dish with fresh garlic bread, accompanied by a sumptuous salad and of course a big variety of tasty desserts. The luncheon is at the New Salem Community Center, 12477 Highway 136, on Lookout Mountain. Chefs with proven culinary skills have been consulted to ensure that the luncheon will be one you will remember as the “best ever.” The community center will be decorated with an Italian theme and we will have our volunteer drivers ready to serve you. They will have their aprons and hats on and will aso wear big smiles.

We accept free-will donations for the service--this is our big fundraiser for the year--and we hope the whole neighborhood will turn out. Would you like to know a little bit more about NSNW?

The Watch has provided significant benefits to residents and businesses on Lookout Mountain since it was started in 1984. We’re an all-volunteer team and we drive thousands of miles each year on our streets and highways to help reduce crime.

The New Salem Watch covers areas in both Dade and Walker counties because this is really one blended area of residences and small businesses on the mountain. Our neighborhood watch routes go as far north as Durham Road and as far south as Old State Highway 198. To the west we go on Sunset Road and to the east we go on Highway 157 and roads off that highway. We cover the same area served by the New Salem Volunteer Fire Department.

We do free property checks for residences and businesses in our area. If you’d like a property check, email us at nsnw.georgia@gmail.com The Watch is backed by both the Dade and Walker County sheriff’s departments. If we see a suspicious activity, we notify the appropriate sheriff’s office immediately. Our vehicle is equipped with a police two-way radio.

Please come this Sunday and sit down with us for a great lunch. If you want a takeout meal, they are also available. The luncheon is provided on a donation basis and provides the needed funds for the Neighborhood Watch to provide year-round coverage. Yes, we do now accept credit and debit cards.

And by the way: We also welcome applications to become a New Salem Neighborhood Watch driver. A background check is required with a current driver’s license. If you are interested in more information, email us at nsnw.georgia@gmail.com.
