Who stole the church van? It was found in a cornfield near Sylvania.
DeKalb County (Ala.) sheriff’s deputies and investigators have been working with Sylvania Police Chief Darren Myers to find two missing vehicles, and recently their efforts paid off. Both vehicles have been located though how they came to stray is still in question.
One of the vehicles is a truck that was noticed to have gone missing from Sylvania Truss Company between Oct. 14 and Oct. 18, and the other is a 2007 Chevrolet van that was reported stolen from Chestnut Grove Church on Sept. 27.
Sylvania Police Chief Myers received a tip about the whereabouts of the Sylvania Truss Company truck. When Chief Myers, deputies and investigators followed that lead to a residence on Road 9053 in Hammondville, they recovered the truck. The theft is still being investigated and no arrests have been made at this time, but arrest warrants are expected in the near future.
As for the 2007 Chevrolet church van, information came in on that from a concerned citizen and it was found in a cornfield on County Road 112 in Sylvania. Jacksonville State’s Applied Science department has been called in to process the van in search of any forensic evidence that could lead to an arrest in this case.
DeKalb Chief Deputy Michael Edmondson commented: “The deputies, investigators and Sylvania Police Chief Darren Myers have been working together in a recovery effort of both of these vehicles and they both have been recovered with the help of concerned citizens’ tips. I want to thank Chief Myers, deputies and investigators for the long hours that they have put into finding these vehicles.”
