Larry Lebron Tidwell (left), 35 of Henagar, Ala., was charged this week with Felony Receiving Stolen Property 3rd. Tidwell had been charged with unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia and unlawful distribution of a controlled substance after a traffic stop in Fort Payne on Sunday, Oct. 22, when he was found with two plastic bags of methamphetamine and a glass pipe. A subsequent investigation revealed that other items found in Tidwell’s vehicle had been stolen from a residence in DeKalb County.
On Thursday, Oct. 26, DeKalb County (Ala.) Drug Task Force agents, sheriff’s deputies and Geraldine police officers went to a residence on County Road 50 in the Grove Oak community to check out a drug complaint. Conducting a search of the residence, they found methamphetamine, marijuana and several guns.
Jimmy Armstrong, 38 (right), of Grove Oak, was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of marijuana 2nd, unlawful possession of
drug paraphernalia and certain person prohibited to possess firearms (felon in possession). Shawna Gilbert Armstrong (left), 35, also of Grove Oak, was also arrested and charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of marijuana 2nd and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.
Because two juveniles were also present at the residence, the Alabama Department of Human Resources was called to the residence. DHR relocated the children with family members.
On the same date in a different incident, deputies observed a vehicle without a tag. When the deputies attempted to make a traffic stop, the vehicle accelerated at a high rate of speed. After a short chase on County Road 169 in Higdon, the vehicle came to a stop. While questioning the driver, Wesley Duane Smith, 32, of Flat Rock (right), the deputies saw marijuana inside the vehicle. At that time Ider Police and DeKalb County Drug Task Force officers came to assist. Smith was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, unlawful possession of marijuana 2nd, unlawful possession of controlled substance, attempting to elude a police officer and resisting arrest.
Chief Deputy Michael Edmondson commented: “I am very proud of the deputies, Drug Task Force and the officers who assist us with the war on drugs here in DeKalb County. We have a zero tolerance drug policy and we will continue this effort in ridding drug from this county.”
