Jim Pledger, director of the Law Enforcement Academy at GNTC, welcomed guests. Keynote speaker was Kenneth Dodd, police chief of the Polk County Police Department.

Dodd reminded graduates that character is a key attribute of being a police officer. "The most important skills in being a cop are honesty, integrity and courage," said Dodd. "That has everything to do with your attitude and how you approach things, so I encourage you to have a positive attitude every day."

Billy F. Smith III was the student speaker for the ceremony. He was also presented the "Top Gun" Award for excellence in marksmanship. He is shown at left receiving the Top Gun award from director Jim Pledger.
