On Monday morning, Nov. 13, the DeKalb County (Ala.) Sheriff’s school resource officer (SRO) was called to a possible burglary at Fyffe School. When the SRO arrived at the school, he found that a classroom window had been broken, several classrooms had been vandalized and some of the rooms had graffiti on the boards.
Security cameras at the school had caught images of the juvenile who had done this. That young person was arrested today and referred to the DeKalb Juvenile Probation Office.
Also on Monday, a Crossville Middle School student was arrested when the juvenile brought a BB pistol into a classroom. At that time, the school principal and SRO were contacted and the juvenile was transported to Coosa Valley Detention Center.
The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office has been working closely on both incidents with Schools Superintendent Jason Barnett.
Chief Deputy Michael Edmondson commented: “We take these kinds of incidents very seriously, especially with what is happening in schools and places around the world. Our children are precious and we do everything that we can to protect them.”
