Library News: Know a Kid Who Needs Math Practice? Come to Math Club!

We would like to express our appreciation to the Dade High Class of ’67 for their generous donation to the Friends of the Library. We have had individuals who have donated as well. Thanks for thinking of the library.

The Book Club will meet on Tuesday, Dec. 19, for our Christmas party and to select the books that we will read in 2018. If you have been thinking about joining us, this might be a good time. We will bring finger foods for the party and anyone who would like to will have the opportunity to nominate a book or two for the group to read for next year. After we have voted on the books, we will decide on the month each book will be read and discussed. The person who nominates a selected book will lead the discussion. The Book Club meets on the third Tuesday of each month.

If you know a child who might benefit from some extra math practice in a fun setting, call and sign them up for our Math Club which will begin Wednesday, Dec. 13. It will meet on Wednesdays until the program ends. Children in Pre-K through second grades will meet at 3 p.m. and children in third through fifth grades will meet at 4 p.m. Call the library at (706) 657-7857 to sign up. We need to know how many we will have so that we will have enough materials on hand. If you miss the first class, just come on the next one.

With Christmas falling on a Monday, we will not miss any of our Ready-to-Read classes in December and they will be on Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. as usual. I’m sure there will be some special activities, so don’t miss out.

We still have one set of the Dade County historical ornaments left for sale. The set of 12 costs $150. We also have three individual ornaments available for $15 each: Dyer Mercantile, Sitton’s Mill and the Dade County Courthouse.

Books make wonderful Christmas gifts, but if your child does not have a library card, just getting them a card will be the gift of an unlimited number of books, at our library or any PINES library in the state of Georgia, or our free electronic downloads. Library cards are free for Georgia residents, or anyone who works or owns property in Georgia, and cost $25 per family for out-of-state residents. It costs $2 to replace a lost card.
