"During all this mess this morning, we made a meth arrest," said Sgt. Chad Payne, information officer for the Dade County Sheriff's Office.

The sergeant, who says the arrest resulted from a suspicious-vehicle call and not from sheriff's deputies' ice-peril patrolling atop Sand Mountain, reported as follows:

On January 8, at approximately 7 a.m., Dade County deputies were dispatched to a suspicious vehicle in the area of Casey Road and Saddle Club Road. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the vehicle.

Approximately 30 minutes later, deputies were advised that the vehicle was off the roadway, possibly hiding behind a building. They checked the area again and located the vehicle behind an outbuilding at 839 Saddle Club Road.

After making contact with the two occupants of the vehicle, it was found that both were in possession of illegal drugs.

William C Ballew (above), 37, of Trenton, was charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession of a Schedule 2 Drug and possession of marijuana.

Kelley A Richards (left), 28, also of Trenton, was charged with possession of Schedule 2 Drug and possession of marijuana.

Both subjects were taken into custody and transported to the Dade County jail. The vehicle was towed from the property.
