The Dade County Board of Education unanimously approved at its Jan. 22 meeting the recommendation of Temperance Shults to serve as director of Special Programs.
Ms. Shults received bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Tennessee, where she majored in psychology and graduated magna cum laude. She received her EdS in 2002 from the University of Tennessee, and in 2005 she received her certification in educational leadership at the University of Alabama. She has over 17 years experience in the public school setting.
Schools Superintendent Jan Harris says Temperance Shults has been an asset to Dade County in her role as school psychologist and social worker for the past two years and that she possesses vast knowledge of state and federal laws, local organizations and, most importantly, the families of Dade County. Dr. Harris describes her as "a woman of character who is vested in the success for all of our deserving students,"
Ms. Shults is an alumna of Dade County Schools. She is married to Bryan Shults, and they have one daughter, Anna. Her parents are Eddie and Ava Carter of Trenton.
Other personnel actions at the Jan. 22 meeting were as follows:
Leaves of absence were granted to Dr. Sharee Miller of Dade Middle School and Jamie Nelson of Dade Elementary. The board accepted the resignation of Frances Taylor from Transportation
Hired were Mary Kate Harwart as a half-time teacher at Davis Elementary in Special Programs; Amber Gilreath as a teacher at Dade County High; Garrett Moore as lay coach for Dade Middle School baseball; and Jamie Layne, Tabitha Hart, Robin Garner, Carey Brown and Cynthia Baker as substitute teachers.
