Because of bad weather, we had to postpone our Book Club meeting a week, but we hope to be back on schedule in February. The Book Club meets the third Tuesday of each month at the library at 7 p.m. February’s meeting will be on the 20th and we will be discussing The Other Wes Moore: One Name, Two Fates, a nonfiction book by Wes Moore. Two boys with the same name are born within blocks of each other, but their lives take starkly different paths.
The Friends of the Library also met last week and the Friends are having a membership drive. We need more Friends of the Library to support our library and its programs. Some of our Friends help by shelving books, working in the history room, helping people in researching the families, working on fundraisers or setting up for programs. Some help just by paying the dues of $10 per year. All monies raised by the Friends support library programs. Come by and fill out a membership form and become a Friend of the Library. The Friends meet quarterly in January, April, July and October, and other times as needed.
There is a job opening at the library for a library assistant. Here is the information: LIBRARY ASSISTANT: Dade County Public Library, part-time 19 hrs/work, includes Saturday. Minimum high school diploma or equivalent required. Computer skills, experience working with children and the general public highly desirable.
