Library News: Blind-date a Book and Other Valentine's (and Anti-Valentine's) Fun

During the month of Valentine’s Day, why not come by the library and have a Blind Date with a Book?

We tend to read books and authors that we are familiar with, but take this opportunity to try something new! Go to the display in the library and check out one of the books covered in black paper, take it home and give it a try. If you really don’t like it, just bring it back, but who knows? Some blind dates lead to great loves.

If you think you are experiencing problems with your Overdrive account, remember that in February the library is switching to a different company for ebooks, RBDigital. For assistance in opening a new account, call or come by the library or go to our website at chrl.org for detailed directions.

The date has been set for Read to Lead, an annual event to encourage children to read, which has been very popular. It will be on Saturday, March 24, in Veterans Park in front of the library. More details to come.

On Saturday, February 10, from 3-5 p.m., the library will host a viewing and discussion of Danish artist Per Henrik Bille’s abstract painting “Big Bang.”

Chattanoogan Finn Bille, brother of the artist, will lead the viewing and discussion, joined by the artist, via Skype, from Denmark. Whether you are an artist or not, putting paint to canvas is a great way to express your emotions. The library will have blank canvases on hand and all those attending will have the opportunity to create a painting of their own and take it home.

Thursday, February 8, will be our Valentine’s Day party for our Ready-to-Read class. Kids who want to may bring Valentines to exchange. There will be goodies. The fun begins at 10:30 a.m.

Valentine’s Day not your thing? There will be an “Anti-Valentine’s Day” teen party on Tuesday, February 13, at 5 p.m. Come out for a night of pizza, scary movies and games. All teens welcome.

On Valentine’s Day, the library will have a Make & Take all day. Come by the library and make something special for that someone special in your life! Get creative. This is for all ages.

Our family movie will be Thursday, February 15 at 3:30 p.m. Put it on your calendar and call the library if you want to know the title (706) 657-7857.
