In the early-morning hours of Saturday, Feb. 3, DeKalb County (Ala.) deputies attempted to make a traffic stop on Alabama Highway 168. When deputies turned on their blue lights, the vehicle took off at a high rate of speed. After a short chase, the vehicle ran off the road on County Road 380 and got stuck.
The deputies identified the driver of the vehicle as Sterling Ray Morgan (left), 23, of Albertville, and the passenger as Shiane Paige Oguinn, 21, of Crossville. Upon searching the vehicle, the deputies found four small bags of methamphetamine. Both Morgan and Oguinn were arrested. Morgan was charged with unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, unlawful possession of controlled substance and attempting to elude a police officer; Oguinn was charged with unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia and unlawful possession of controlled substance.
On Wednesday, Feb. 7, the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office received a call about a theft at the Dollar General Store in Collinsville. When deputies arrived at the store, the manager said he had observed Trisha Marie Decastro, 36, of Crossville putting some items in her purse that she didn’t pay for. The deputies searched Decastro’s purse and found items from the store she had allegedly taken and a small black container that contained several plastic baggies which contained methamphetamine and some prescription pills.
Decastro was accompanied at the store by Anthony Gerald Brown. As deputies and a Crossville officer were checking Brown for items, they found a marijuana grinder along with marijuana in his pocket. Brown pulled away from the officers and took off running through a residential area. Brown was not located but warrants have been obtained for his arrest. Decastro was arrested and charged with theft of property 4th, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, unlawful possession of controlled substance and illegal possession of prescription drugs.
Also on Wednesday, the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office received a call about a vehicle leaving a residence from which a stolen vehicle had been recovered last week. As deputies were on their way to the residence, they observed the described vehicle traveling in the opposite direction. When the deputies turned around, the vehicle accelerated to a high speed.
After the officers had chased the vehicle for several miles, it left the roadway, striking a tree. The driver, DeWayne Bailey, and passenger, Adam Talley, both took off on foot into the woods. K-9 Marianna tracked the offenders for several hours but ultimately lost the scent.
The deputies got word that Talley was located at a residence on Wigley Avenue in Powell. When they arrived at the residence, they found Talley hiding in a closet. As the deputies were looking for Talley, they observed syringes and methamphetamine inside the residence. As a result, four individuals were arrested: Kenneth Adam Talley (left), 32, of Fyffe, was charged with unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia and attempt to elude; Steven LeeRoy Allison, 43, of Powell; Amanda Renae Ledwell, 26, of Dutton; and James Wesley Phillips, 47 of Fyffe, were all charged with unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.
Today, Thursday, Feb. 8, DeKalb deputies and a Geraldine police officer conducted a traffic stop on County Road 24 and made contact with James Parrish Bartlett, who had warrants from the Boaz Police Department, and Logan Elizabeth Johnson, 21, of Albertville, who had warrants with Marshall County. As the officers were obtaining this information, Johnson tried to flee the scene. Bartlett was transported to Boaz Police Department and Johnson was arrested for attempting to elude and transported to DeKalb County Detention Center.
Also today, DeKalb deputies conducted a traffic stop on Highway 75. When they approached the vehicle, they observed that the driver was very nervous. The deputies then got K-9 Marianna out to do an open-air sniff. K-9 Marianna alerted on the driver side of the vehicle. When the deputies got Brandon Lee Preston (right), 33, of Henagar, out of the vehicle, they found him to have two small plastic bags of methamphetamine on his person and a pistol in the vehicle. Preston was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia and unlawful possession of controlled substance.
DeKalb Sheriff Jimmy Harris commented: “Our deputies and the officers that assisted did a great job on all of these arrests. We have outstanding warrants for Anthony Gerald Brown and DeWayne Bailey.
