Sgt. Chad's Weekly Crime Roundup



Editor's Note: Sgt. Chad Payne, information officer for the Dade County Sheriff's Office, submitted the following the report on Tuesday:

On Feb. 13, at approximately 6:30 a.m., Dade County deputies were in the area of Highway 299 looking for a stolen vehicle. The day prior, a subject had advised a deputy that he had seen his stolen vehicle in the area of Highway 299 and Highway 11, and had asked that the sheriff's office be on the lookout for it.

While sitting stationary on Highway 299, a Dade deputy observed a vehicle matching the description of the stolen one pass by his location. He conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and confirmed that it was the stolen vehicle he was advised about the day prior.

After a brief investigation, it was found that the driver had a suspended license and was in possession of a controlled substance. Also, a female passenger was found to be in possession of a controlled substance. The vehicle was impounded and both occupants were taken to the Dade County Jail for booking.


The driver, Jerry A Gay (right), 61, of Seymour, Tenn., was charged with

  • Theft by Bringing Stolen Property into the State

  • Giving False Name and/or Date of Birth to Law Enforcement

  • Possession of a Controlled Substance

  • Altered License Plate

  • Driving While License Suspended or Revoked


Alisha V Seier (left), 32, of Knoxville, Tenn., was charged with

  • Possession of a Schedule 1 controlled substance

  • Possession of a Schedule 2 controlled substance.

On Feb. 17, at approximately 3:30 a.m., a Dade deputy observed a vehicle traveling on Highway 11 at a high rate of speed, and not able to maintain driving within his lane of travel.


After the deputy caught up to the vehicle, he conducted a traffic stop. It was found that the offender, Samual C. Morgan, 23, of Trenton, was driving under the influence of alcohol.

Morgan (right) was transported to the jail for booking and was charged with

  • Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol

  • Failure to Maintain Lane.
