Library News: Fourth Annual Read to Lead on the 24th!

Dade County’s fourth Annual Read to Lead will be March 24 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Dade County Library and Veterans Park on the square. Children of all ages are encouraged to join us for this National Reading Month event. Our community leaders will be reading stories to the children. There will be musical entertainment by the Davis Elementary Chorus.

Read to Lead will feature FREE children’s books, games, crafts, haircuts, Noah’s Ark Petting Zoo, face painting, photo booth and door prizes, including tickets to local attractions. This event is sponsored by Dade First-Family Connection and the Dade County Public Library.

If you are having any problems using RB Digital, please come by the library for assistance. Ready to Read is still at 10:30 a.m. on Thursdays, and there will be an Easter Egg Hunt at Jenkins Park on March 29.

There will be another Beginners’ Computer Class at the Library on Tuesday, March 13 with one session at 10 a.m. and another at 6 p.m. Call the library at (706) 657-7857 to sign up. Our Family Movie will be on Thursday, March 15, at 3:30 p.m. Call the library for the title.

The Book Club will meet on Tuesday, March 20, at 7 p.m. at the library to discuss Memory Man by David Baldacci. This book was originally scheduled to be discussed in April, but we’ve switched March and April’s books to accommodate some of our members. Memory Man is a great read. As soon as I finished it, I had to read the two sequels.

The library is starting a Teen Advisory Board which will meet for the first time on Tuesday, March 27, at 4 p.m. We will have a pizza party to kick off the program. Any teens are welcome to attend the first meeting. The purpose of the Teen Advisory Board is to get input from teens about programs and activities they would like to see at the library. If you have questions, contact Nicole Walters at nwalters@chrl.org.

We got some new books in last week and they will be available for checkout by March 6. Titles are Carnegies Maid by Marie Benedict, Hello Stranger, High Voltage, Other Einstein, Plum Tea Crazy, Raspberry Danish Murder, Shallow Grave, Simon Vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda, and Raven Black by Ann Cleeves. Raven Black is one of this year’s Book Club books and it will be discussed at our July meeting.

The Dade County Historical Society will meet at the library this Saturday, March 10, at 10:30 a.m. They will break for lunch at noon and come back at 1:00 for a tour of the historic Dade County Courthouse.

The library will be closed on Saturday, March 17.
