Dade 4-Hers Shine at Rock Eagle DPA Competition

Three of our Dade County 4-H’ers traveled to Rock Eagle 4-H Center in Eatonton, Georgia, March 2-4 to compete in 4-H Junior/Senior District Project Achievement (DPA).

There were 37 counties competing, with 288 Juniors and 380 Seniors for a total of 668 students. All competitors had previously prepared a portfolio of their project work for the past year that made up half of their overall score. At Rock Eagle, students had to either present a four-minute performance in the performing arts categories, or make a 10-12 minute presentation in all other categories.

Alyson Addington competed in Performing Arts, Other Instrumental, with a flute performance. Jordan Fraser competed in Performing Arts Drama with a dramatic monologue. Kara Wilson competed in Workforce Preparation and Career Development with an overview of how she used surveys available to students to identify her strengths, choose a career path based on those strengths, and select the best schools and/or training for that career.

DPA is an excellent way for students to determine what their strengths and interests are while learning to prepare and present their information to a group. Another “Learning by Doing” activity that 4-H offers!
