Library News: Read to Lead This Saturday!

Dade County’s fourth annual Read to Lead program is Saturday, March 24, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Dade County Library and on the square. We will celebrate National Reading Month with stories read by leaders in the Dade County community and entertainment by the Davis Elementary Chorus.

There will be FREE children’s books, games, crafts and haircuts. There will be lots of fun activities including Noah’s Ark Petting Zoo, face painting and a photo booth. Door prizes include local attraction tickets.

Read to Lead is sponsored by Dade First Family Connection and the Dade

County Public Library. Bring the kids!

Our first Teen Advisory Board (TAB) meeting will be Tuesday, March 27, beginning at 4 p.m. This meeting is for teens only.

Why join the Teen Advisory Board? Tell us what books and movies you would like to see at the library. Brainstorm and plan what programs you want at the library. Earn community service hours and have something great to put on your college applications.

Also, snacks are always provided.

At our first meeting, we will have pizza and Virtual Reality to celebrate our kickoff! Have questions? Contact Nicole Walters at nwalters@chrl.org or call the library at 657-7857.

The Ready to Read program on Thursday, March 29, will be an Easter egg hunt in Jenkins Park. This is for ages 0 to 5 and it begins at 10:30 a.m.

The Blue Ribbon Glow Run for Child Abuse Awareness will take place at Dade County High School on Friday, April 27, at 8 p.m. The last day to register is March 31. Participants can register at the Dade County Library or go online at https://runsignup.com/blueribbonglowrun. It’s free to register and those who participate will receive a free T-shirt while they last.

The library is a great community meeting place! We have two small meeting rooms that are frequently used for tutoring or counseling sessions and even gaming. We have a large meeting room which can be reserved for large groups and it now has a large screen and a projector installed.

We sometimes have meetings in our local history room as well. We’ve had quilters, the historical society, the Friends of the Library and groups planning class reunions meeting in this room. If you need a space for a meeting, check with the library about it--(706) 657-7857.
