The DeKalb County (Ala.) Sheriff’s Office responded to a call for help from the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office after Monday's storms. Calhoun, two counties south from DeKalb, is the home of Jacksonville, which was one of the cities hardest hits by storms that tore through Alabama March 19, serving up high winds and hail and leaving thousands without power.
DeKalb itself, specified the sheriff's office, was left, like Dade, largely unscathed by the storms. But late Monday night and early this morning, DeKalb deputies and investigators as well as the county's reserve and mounted units went to Jacksonville to help with recovery efforts.
They sent back these dramatic photographs, which the DeKalb Sheriff's Office shared with media outlets including The Planet.
DeKalb Sheriff Jimmy Harris commented: “The Sheriff’s Office goes out and assists surrounding counties when they request our assistance, whether it be due to storms, locating missing persons, or just needing assistance during events such as Talladega races, Fishing Rodeo at Dolphin Island and Mobile's Mardi Gras. Sheriff’s offices and municipalities are here to assist each other, that’s what we are here for.”
