Storm-wise, No News Is the Best Kind

Writer: Robin Ford WallaceRobin Ford Wallace

The big storm that Dade was girding its loins against on Monday didn't turn out to amount to much in the county, but Dade County Executive Chairman Ted Rumley said it did inconvenience some Sand Mountain residents briefly.

An estimated 600 people were without power in the New Home area, he said. The outage, caused by trees falling on electrical lines, lasted for several hours in some homes, said Rumley.

But all the outages have now been dealt with, he said, and with schools closing early on Monday, events canceled and storm shelters opening, Dade should consider itself lucky to have gotten off so lightly. "We dodged a bullet," said Rumley.
