The Morgan Road crossing.

Dade County Emergency Services Director Alex Case said a driver whose vehicle was struck today by a southbound train was miraculously uninjured, though he was taken to the hospital “just to check him out.”

Case said the accident happened at around 12:45 this afternoon when the man, who was a contract driver for the U.S. Postal Service, crossed the tracks at the Morgan Road crossing north of Trenton and failed to notice a train was hurtling down the tracks toward him from the north. The train impacted the vehicle at the rear axle and destroyed it pretty thoroughly, said Case.

“Mail was slung everywhere,” he said.

Case could not give a name for the driver, who he said escaped with nothing worse than bumps and bruises.
